This Okeh 8300-A disc holds a singular place in Louis Armstrong's recording history, as "Heebie Jeebies" is widely credited with popularizing scat singing on record, an innovation that became one of Armstrong's signature contributions to jazz vocal performance.

This recording of "Heebie Jeebies," composed by Boyd Atkins, was made on February 26, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, by Louis Armstrong and His Hot Five, with personnel comprising Louis Armstrong on cornet and vocals, Kid Ory on trombone, Johnny Dodds on clarinet, Lil Hardin Armstrong on piano, and Johnny St. Cyr on banjo. The reverse side of the disc, Okeh 8300-B, contains "Muskrat Ramble," recorded during the same session with the same personnel.

The disc, pressed under Okeh's Truetone Process, is housed in its original paper sleeve, which is printed with the phrase "Okeh, The Record of Quality" in decorative script, accompanied by promotional text extolling the label's recording standards and an illustration of musical instruments, including a banjo, violin, and trumpet, positioned in the lower corner of the sleeve. 

The record label is rendered in gold lettering against a deep red background, headed by the Okeh insignia and the Truetone Process emblem. Surrounding text reads "RECORDED BY TRUETONE PROCESS"  and "FOR BEST RESULTS USE OKeh NEEDLES", with "GENERAL PHONOGRAPH CORPORATION" printed as well. The title "HEEBIE JEEBIES" appears in large lettering at the center, with the composer credit "(Atkins)" directly beneath it. Performance credit follows: "Louis Armstrong and His Hot Five," with the additional line "Vocal Chorus by Louis Armstrong" and "Recorded in Chicago, Ill." The genre designation "FOX TROT" is printed near the base of the label, and the catalog number "8300-A" appears along the left edge, with a matrix number faintly visible near the spindle hole.
