Dear Pal 'Mez' (1933)

Please contact to request access

This is a three page letter from Louis Armstrong to jazz clarinetist Mezz Mezzrow.  It was sent from England in 1933, notably during troubles between Louis and manager Johnny Collins.

To Mr. Michel De Bry (1948)

This thank you note confirms Louis' receipt of  the vase that served - and still serves - as  the centerpiece of the mantle at the Armstrong house.  The gift was on behalf of French President Vincent Auriol, arranged by Michel De Bry, and presented to Louis by actor Yves Montand at the Festival International du Jazz de Nice.

Rehomed to the Louis Armstrong Center at the Louis Armstrong House Museum.  Corona, Queens.
