→| Description | This is a souvenir photo folder from The Hurricane nightclub, located at Broadway & 49th St., N.Y.C., a prominent venue during the early 1940s. The front cover, printed in navy blue on cream textured stock, features an illustration of a wind-bent palm tree with a thatched structure behind it, enclosed within a bamboo-style border. The text reads "SOUVENIR" along the left side and "THE HURRICANE / BROADWAY & 49TH ST. – N.Y.C." arching across the upper right. The back cover bears a central ornamental cartouche printed with "SOUVENIR PHOTO / $1.00 / REMEMBRANCE OF A PLEASANT EVENING AT / THE HURRICANE," with an additional notice in the lower right corner reading "For extra copies write to: / PLANETARY PHOTO / 311 West 34th Street / BRyant 9-7740 / Ask for number on back of photograph." The interior page bears the pencil signatures of Duke Ellington and Armstrong. The signatures suggest this folder was obtained by a patron during a live engagement at the club. There is no photo within. |
