"Struttin with some Bar-B-Q" Dinner Photo

2 of 3

Description

A black-and-white press photograph taken by Character Studios of Cleveland. The photograph depicts three people seated together at a table in a casual dining setting, with beer bottles visible on the table in front of them.

Louis Armstrong is seated at the left, smiling and gesturing toward the camera. In the center sits a man wearing a light-colored suit jacket. To the right sits Lucille Armstrong wearing a brooch on her lapel and a large bracelet with her initials, holding what appear to be ribs.

The wall behind the subjects is a painted or plastered brick surface, in the photo covered with an inscription from Louis reading "Struttin with some Bar-B-Q / To Nat / From Satch".  He has additionally inscribed the lower right of the picture, but this is illegible other than barely his full name signature.

The photograph appears to have been taken during a social or post-performance occasion in Cleveland, consistent with other pieces from Nat Story's collection.  Year-span estimated.
