Description

This is a large-format studio photograph depicting a young Armstrong in a suit and striped tie, reclining in a relaxed pose. A stamp on the bottom right margin of the photograph reads "STUDIO OF SMITH / L.A."  Inscribed along the left border of the photograph, is "To "Peppy" / "My My" Those good ol Days / Always Happy to "Dig" you. / Louis Armstrong."  Further Down, it is also signed "Satchmo".

Finally, in the upper right, Armstrong wrote "P.S.  I had hair - here.  Tee Hee"

The photograph dates to approximately 1930 Los Angeles, consistent with the period when Armstrong was performing and recording on the West Coast. 

NOTE:  While from the collection of, and inscribed to, sideman Martin Peppie, the writing at bottom indicates prior ownership by Bud Scott, banjo player for King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band.
